3-D Shapes In the Preschool Classroom
Have you introduced 3-D shapes in your preschool classroom? I introduce one to two shapes a week. During circle time I place one of the solids in the mystery bag. We take turns feeling the shape and I will have the students ask themselves questions, does it roll, will it slide, can you feel a shape?
I will normally start with a cube, then the sphere, cone, rectangular prism, and pyramid until no more are left.
After each shape is introduced, we will talk about what in our classroom is that shape. A dice is a cube, a Kleenex box is a rectangular prism, a marble, and our globe are spheres.
These 3-D posters are perfect to hang up in the classroom or use as flashcards during circle time. You can find them here in my TPT Store.
I love these clear 3-D shapes as an added extension. We use them with the lightbox and will fill them with rice and water.
Make 3-D shapes with materials in your classroom including paper, Magnatiles, blocks, and playdough.
Using marshmallows and toothpicks to make 3-D shapes will become a favorite activity with your students. ***Teacher Tip: make sure the marshmallows are a little stale, they hold their shape better!!!
On the shelf, there are a couple of different matching activities.
