Dinosaur Preschool Activities
The dinosaur theme in preschool is definitely a favorite among the kids and there are so many fun activities and learning experiences. Here are just a few of the different activities on the shelves.
Dinosaur Fine Motor Activities
We made dinosaur collages using cardboard dinosaur shapes, paint sticks, stickers, tape, feathers, and googly eyes! I love how they turned out and the kids had fun decorating and playing with them.
Free the dinosaurs! A great fine motor activity to strengthen finger muscles. This was a kid’s favorite and they asked for it every day. By the end of the week, the kids were freeing the dinosaurs really quickly and then putting the rubber bands back on again so their friends could do it!
Q-tip painting-a fun fine motor activity. Here is a copy of D is for Dinosaur.
Dinosaur Crafts
T-Rex is by far the favorite dinosaur and this was a quick crafty project the kids loved!
Another quick glue project was adding the bony plates and spiky tail to the stegosaurus.
Dinosaur Scissor Activity
We did this quick color-and-cut dinosaur project during group time! We are always looking for scissor activities. Here is a copy of the Dinosaur Scissor Activity to print.
Dinosaur Writing Fun
I drew a large dinosaur and hung it on our whiteboard. During group time I asked the kids to come up and circle all of the lower case d’s.
Our lightbox is always being used. I placed simple outlines of dinosaurs into plastic sleeves and taped them to the lightbox. The kids taped their own paper and traced.

Dinosaur Preposition Activity
This dinosaur and volcano preposition activity is great for learning position words. I say to the kids, “Place the dinosaur behind the volcano. Place the dinosaur above the volcano.” This resource can be found here in my TPT store.
Dinosaur Fossils
We made dinosaur fossils out of salt dough. Mix 2 cups flour, 1 cup salt, and 1 cup of water. Knead and press dinosaurs into the dough. Bake 325 until hard, about 30 minutes, depending on thickness.
For days I was making this “excavate the dinosaurs” activity. Before the kids left each day they asked to do it again the next day. I placed dinosaurs in mini tins, added baking soda mixed with water, and froze. I gave the kids lots of vinegar, pipettes, and paintbrushes to free the dinosaurs. It was a lot of fun and a bit of a mess, but totally worth the excitement when the dinosaurs were free. On the second day of the activity, I added primary colors to the vinegar to give it a bit of extra:) Quick tip-take out the tins about a half-hour before the activity to let them thaw or warm up the vinegar a bit.
