October Preschool Activities
There are so many activities to do in the preschool classroom in October, including arts and crafts, name activities, and math and literacy activities, and at the same time developing those fine motor skills. Some of our favorite themes are pumpkin, fall, fire safety, and Halloween.
October Arts and Crafts
Work on fine motor skills with this tearing paper activity! Just tear orange and green strips and have your students tear them into pieces. You can find the templates for the pumpkin and other fun October shapes here.
Use a salad spinner to create these gorgeous pumpkins. I used small squirt bottles with thin paint and a salad spinner.
Practice Motor Skills
One of our student’s favorite activities is to wash pumpkins! Grab your water table, add a few pumpkins, sponges, scrub brushes, and soap. You will have the cleanest pumpkins in town!
Make pumpkin bracelets with green pipe cleaners and orange pony beads. This is a great fine motor skill activity.
Practice pre-writing skills with these pumpkin themed cards. Use a salt tray, shaving cream, or markers and paper. Download the pre-writing cards here!
October Shape Posters
We are always working on shapes in preschool! Use these posters as decor or flash cards. I use them whenever we have an extra minute in the day—waiting in line, starting or finishing circle time, or in between books during story time. Download them here!
October Number Order Activity
Work on number order with this fun pumpkin activity. Print the pumpkins on orange paper and loosely cut out, a perfect Netflix activity. I added sentence strips for my students to add the pumpkins. This would be a fun craft to use with the 5 Little Pumpkins poem! Download the activity here!
Fire Safety Week
Make this fun fire truck craft during Fire Safety Week, which takes place in October. You can find the template for the fire truck here!
Fun October Sensory
Add spiders and containers to a bucket of oobleck. To make oobleck add cornstarch and water until you get the right consistency. It should feel hard when you first pick it up, but then it runs through your fingers giving it a liquid feel.
October Name Activity
One of my favorite October activities is this pumpkin name and scissor activity! This is a perfect craft to practice straight-line cutting and name recognition! You can find this editable resource in my TPT store.
