Caterpillar Activities In the Preschool Classroom
There are so many caterpillar-inspired activities you can add to your preschool classroom!
Our caterpillars arrived last week and we could not have been more excited. It is the first thing the students go to in the mornings. I can’t believe how big they have gotten in just seven days! We have been busy with caterpillar activities and reading books about the stages of butterflies. Such an exciting time in the preschool classroom. I ordered these caterpillars last year and again this year directly from Amazon.
Caterpillar Quick Crafts
These pom pom caterpillars were a big hit with my students. Print this leaf template on green construction paper or card stock and cut out the leaves. Add a strip of glue, pom poms, and googly eyes!
Caterpillar Art Activities
Your students will love making these egg carton caterpillars. Cut the egg cartons down the middle. Paint the body green and the head red. Add a pipe cleaner antenna and googly eyes!
Make these pattern block caterpillars with your students. I traced the hexagon, triangle, and diamond from our pattern blocks on construction paper and cut them out. Add a glue stick and markers.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar Activities
The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a preschool classic and the students love it. We make these simple bracelets as an extension of the book.
Download this fun hole punch activity and add your caterpillar-inspired activities. Work on fine motor skills and your students punch their way through the caterpillar’s choice of foods. We love this hole punch!
Caterpillar Math Activities
Practice number order and fine motor skills with this colorful caterpillar!
Print the numbers on construction paper or card stock and cut them apart. Have your students cut the circles out on the dotted lines and glue them in number order on a large piece of construction paper. You can find this resource here in my TPT store.
Work on counting with this fingerprint-counting caterpillar. Download the template and add green and red stamp pads.
Caterpillar Count and Clip Cards
These caterpillar count and clip cards help your students practice counting and number recognition! Add a sticker to the back of the cards for self-check.
Next up in the classroom will be butterfly activities. Check out this blog post for some inspiration.
