I love our collection of wordless books. Wordless books give the child a chance to tell the story by following the context of the pictures and providing their own text.
Good Dog, Carl has been a loooong time favorite. Mom leaves Carl in charge of the baby saying she will be back shortly. The baby and Carl have the best time getting into a little mischief while mom is out. Carl takes the BEST care of the baby. This book is great for all, young toddlers to older kids. The illustrations are amazing! There are a few Carl books in the series and we read Carl’s Christmas every Christmas, definitely a favorite.
I checked Chalk out at the library based only on the cover and it quickly became a favorite with the kids. Three kids find magical chalk while at the playground on a rainy day and as they draw their illustrations come to life. At first, the drawings are cute and innocent, but before long one of the kids draws a dinosaur. The dinosaur that comes to life is a bit scary, but I find that makes the kid love it all the more! The illustrations are AMAZING!
Where’s Walrus? is one of my new favorites!! While the zookeeper is taking a nap the Walrus slips out of the zoo. The walrus disguises himself just enough as he wanders throughout the city to keep the zookeeper one step behind. Another fun one is this series is Where’s Walrus and the Penguin?
The Lion and the Mouse is a wordless rendition of the Aesop fable. The lion spares the mouse’s life and in return, the mouse saves the lion. The illustrations are stunning.
Deep in the Forest is a fun take on Goldilocks and the Three Bears. A small bear enters a log cabin in the woods when the mom, dad, and little girl are away. When the family returns they find all the mischief the little bear has made. The illustrations are beautiful and the expressions on the little girl are toooooo cute!
The Snowman is about a little boy who during the day builds a snowman then that night when he can’t sleep he finds the snowman has come alive. The Snowman and the boy explore all of the wonders inside the house and then they go outside and the boy becomes part of the Snowman’s wintery world. Who doesn’t want to be friends with a snowman??? I love all of the potential dialogue with this book.
I am on a mission to find more wordless books to add to my library!
Here are more books to add to your classroom.
