Circle Time Preschool Read Aloud Books

Every teacher has their favorite circle time preschool read-aloud books. The books that you can grab at any time. Here are a few of my favorite read-aloud books, most of which I have read so many times I know them by heart!

Classic Read Alouds

Preschool Read Aloud Activities

Harry the Dirty Dog is a favorite from my childhood! Your kids will love following Harry as he transforms from a white dog with black spots to a black dog with white spots. The kids’ favorite page is when they spot the scrubbing brush under Harry’s pillow.

Read Across America Read Aloud

Your students will love this classic version of The Three Bears. The pictures are perfect and the text is straightforward. Make sure you use a great big papa voice, a medium-sized mama voice, and a wee voice as you read each of the bears’ lines.

Read Aloud

I have read A Fish Out Of Water sooooo many times! It is a long book for preschoolers but I 100% guarantee they will be riveted to their seats until the very end.

Beginning of the Year Read Alouds

Preschool Circle Time Read Alouds

We start the school year with Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes and Pete the Cat and His Four Grovy Buttons. Your students will love Pete the Cat and will be singing along!

Preschool Circle Time Read Alouds

Dogs Colorful Day is perfect for the beginning of the school year. The book introduces new colors and there are many opportunities to practice counting as Dog gets messy during his day.

Read Across America Read Aloud

I Ain’t Gonna Paint No More is a fun book to read/sing to your students as we watch this little boy paint all parts of his body. Your students will want you to read this one over and over!

Read Alouds

Quick as a Cricket is a preschool favorite. The illustrations are AMAZING and the text is simple. This is the perfect book to have in your collection. Honestly, every book by this author and illustrator duo is a must!

Fun Fall Circle Time Read Alouds

Preschool Read Aloud

Owl Babies is the story of three owl babies who are alone in their nest while their mom is out hunting. We read this one on repeat as we are learning about owls in the fall. I especially love how you get to know each of the owls’ personalities by the end of the story.

Circle Time Fall Read Alouds

My copy of Night Animals has been read and reread by my students so many times it is showing it is well-loved! The text and illustrations are simple but there are so many fun gems to find as you read and reread. A perfect addition to our nocturnal animal theme.

Winter Circle Time Read Alouds

Winter Circle Time Read Alouds

The Gingerbread Boy is such a fun read, but spoiler alert in this edition the fox does eat the gingerbread boy at the end of the story. It can be a bit of a shock to some students.

Spring Circle Time Read Alouds

Read Across America Book Read Alouds

I read Wacky Wednesday for the first time on the Monday of Read Across America Week. When the students walk into class on Wednesday it is WACKY WEDNESDAY at school. If you have not added this day to your yearly plan I highly suggest you give it a go. It will be a highlight of the school year. Check out this blog post for some inspiration.

Spring Circle Time Read Alouds

As we are learning about butterflies there are a few fun books such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar, that are a must for preschool. But The Very Impatient Caterpillar is definitely the favorite read-aloud!

Summer Circle Time Read Alouds

Preschool Reading Books

During the summer if I ask the kids to choose a book to read at storytime, someone will ALWAYS choose Jabari Jumps. This book is about a little boy who has just learned to swim and is facing his next challenge jumping off the high jump. If you are looking for more books about swimming here are a few that we love!

King Bidgood’s in the Bathtub is in the top five of my favorite books to read during circle time. The illustrations are PERFECT and the repetitive text is fun to read.

Read Aloud Books

Anything by Mo Willems will become a favorite with your students. We love Knuffle Bunny and any of the Pigeon books.

Preschool Read Aloud

The Tub People has always been one of those books that when I read it I am surprised by how well the kids sit for it. The story is told from the point of view of the Tub People and I think this is why the kids are so fascinated with it.

Preschool Read Across America

Caps For Sale is a classic and it has monkeys! The peddler is trying to sell his caps, when he doesn’t sell any, he takes a nap at the base of a tree. When he wakes up all of his caps are gone and all of the monkeys are wearing them.

Having a great book to read to your students is a must! There are so many amazing books to choose from. What are your favorites?
