In Go To Sleep, Groundhog! Groundhog goes to sleep on Columbus Day, setting his alarm clock for February 2nd, like he always does, but he has trouble sleeping. He wakes up to see all of the things he had never seen before like Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. I love the timeline this story provides for the kids. I had to include Groundhog Weather School since it has so many fun facts about groundhogs, related animals, weather, seasons, shadows, burrows, and predictions. When he hurries back to town and the townspeople make him feel appreciated and give him lots of attention.
Groundhog’s Dilemma
In Groundhog’s Dilemma groundhog is trying to make all his animal friends happy. Some of them want him to see his shadow and some of them don’t. They each tell groundhog what they want him to do and groundhog does not want any of his friends to be mad at him.
Grumpy Groundhog
Grumpy Groundhog does not want to come out of his burrow. He is comfortable, warm, and sleepy. The town is cheering for him. They tempt him with coffee and slippers to ease him out of his hole. The rhyming text and adorable illustrations make this a fun storytime read-aloud.
