Preschool Books About Swimming
Swimming is such an essential life skill and overcoming the fear of swimming can be hard for some kids. These preschool books about swimming will give your students the understanding that it is okay to be nervous about swimming and also give them vocabulary and opportunities to communicate their fears.
1,2,3, Jump shows preschoolers what to expect during the swim lesson. This book covers it all, what the teacher will say, what the water will feel and smell like, blowing bubbles, putting your head under, floating, splashing, and of course finally jumping in!
Saturday Is Swimming Day is a wonderful story of how patience and a little bit of bravery are all you need to face your fears. Our little swimmer is nervous about swim lessons, she is not sure about the pool, but she watches all of the other kids having fun. The teacher is patient and slowly our little swimmer gets her feet wet and then gets in the pool. I love how the author slowly gets our swimmer comfortable over the course of several lessons.
Lottie is not sure of the water, and she knows there is a shark lurking at the bottom of the pool, even though her friends can’t see it. One day Walter appears and she has a friend to share her concerns with. During a pool party, Lottie takes the big leap and realizes there is no shark but there is a surprise waiting for her. The illustrations in Lottie and Walter are so beautiful!
Nate LOVES sharks, but he can’t swim. He is determined to learn, reminding himself sharks are fearless when he is not so confident. With the help of his coach Nate learns to blow bubbles, hold his breath, put his face under, and use a kick board. Shark Nate-O is a fun book with lots of shark humor!
Watching Jabari face his fears on the diving board is so relatable to kids. Jabari Jumps is always on repeat with the kids and before you know it they are jumping off the picnic benches into the water just like Jabari!
Bubbles…Up! is just a fun book about a day at the community pool! The pictures are amazing and the text is simple. This is one book the kids will just have fun looking through after reading it to them.
