We don’t get a lot of snow here in Brentwood, CA but we love snowflake projects! Of course on the shelf is the classic snowflake cutting activity! Be sure to have plenty of extra folded paper on hand. Once the kids get the hang of it they can’t stop:) A fun and easier variation – fold and cut coffee filters.
Snowflake punching
On the easel, I made large snowflakes for the kids to paint. Definitely, a fun change adding the negative space.
Patterning is always a go-to activity in the classroom. I glued the matching snowflakes to medium sized clothespins. (Find these cards in my TPT Store!)
Beads and pipe cleaners are another great patterning activity.
We count the Snowflake Numbers, which are hung on the wall, during circle time. To keep it challenging we will count backward, only count the white snowflakes or the blue snowflakes, and I will use a post-it note to cover a number.
Snowflake counting cards on the math shelf.
For a super simple snowflake project, staple strips of paper to make snowflakes. The kids can tear white paper and glue. Great fine motor project!
Here is a copy of our Snowflake Poem.
We use our snowflake color cards during circle time and with our pocket charts. The kids use our pointer to name the colors or I will ask them to go and get a specific color and bring it to me.
The kids love to “read” the color snowflake book. They then can color and make their own to read at home.
A few printables available during independent work time.
Fun name tags to practice our colors and color words.
The printables are available in my TPT store.
