Winter Pre-Writing Activity
Winter is the perfect time to slow things down and focus on foundational skills—especially pre-writing! Before your students are ready to form letters and numbers, they need plenty of practice building fine motor strength, hand-eye coordination, and pencil control. You can download this winter pre-writing activity at the end of the blog post!

This activity focuses on tracing basic lines and shapes, which are the building blocks of writing. Your students can practice straight lines, curved lines, zigzag lines, and simple shapes.

Print the resource, and add paper, markers or crayons.

Change up the activity by adding a salt tray. Place a thin layer of colored salt onto a tray. Have your students use their finger, a paintbrush, or a cotton swab to trace the lines in the salt. Gently shake the tray to erase and try again.
