Winter Preschool Read Alouds
We don’t live in an area that snows let alone experience a blizzard that dumps enough snow on the ground that you can’t go out the front door! The simple text and the amazing illustrations in Blizzard made this such a fun read-aloud and there were so many questions that led to some fun conversations during storytime. The story is based on the author’s experience with one of the biggest snowstorms in history.
Ten on the Sled is the perfect book to read while we were studying arctic animals in our classroom. So many of them are represented having fun on the sled hurtling down the mountain. A fun and silly read-aloud!
Reading all of the bear books throughout the year, it only makes sense to read Bear Snores On in the winter. As all the animals take shelter in the bear’s den, bear continues to snore on.
Winter Is Here has simple text describing the season with beautiful winter illustrations. Keep an eye out for the other three books in this seasonal series.
The Mitten will forever be one of my favorite read-aloud books. This classic has been part of my winter book collection for as long as I can remember.
Out of all of the books on the shelf, the kids picked A Kitten Tale to read first. This is a cute story of four kittens. Three of the kittens are scared of the upcoming winter snow, and the fourth kitten can’t wait! Our class loves to talk about the different seasons that this book illustrates and it is also great for asking the kids, “What do you think will happen?”
I loved The Littlest Yak for a couple of reasons. First, there really are not too many children’s books about yaks and this story demonstrates that it is good to be the littlest. Gertie, our littlest yak, can’t wait to be a big yak, but when her smallness is needed, she learns that she is perfect just the way she is.
When I saw this book, I knew it needed to be added to the winter bookshelf. The cover alone had my students gravitating to it! All kids think garbage trucks are amazing. How many times have you stopped class just to see the garbage truck go by? During wintertime, this Supertruck has a secret power!?! Simple text and fun illustrations make for the perfect attention-grabbing read-aloud.
Snow Globe Wishes is a sweet story of a little girl and her family during a snowstorm and what happens the next day when she makes a snow globe wish. I loved the wonderful magical ending!
